Passing of George W. "Bill" Skinner 212th 67-68

Just learned of George's passing. Served with him at the Long Thanh detachment.







George W. "Bill" Skinner, 61, Platte City, MO, formerly of Dearborn, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 28, 2004, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Visitation will be Thursday, September 30 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Platte City, MO, 2nd & Ferrel. A memorial service will be held at the church at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 1 with burial to follow at the Camden Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Skinner Family Cancer Research Fund c/o the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, 1055 Broadway, Suite 130, Kansas City, MO, 64105. Bill was born August 30, 1943, in Hollywood, CA, while his father was overseas in the Army. At six weeks old, he took a train ride to the Northern Platte County area, never to leave again except for his military duty. He graduated from Dearborn High School in 1961, and then joined his parents in banking. He served in Vietnam from 1967-68, and then returned to banking, where his career spanned 40 years, the last 19 with Nodaway Valley Bank in St. Joseph, MO. Bill enjoyed farming, fishing, dogs, football, sightseeing, and watching his grandchildren grow. His wife of 14 years, Barbara, and his father, George P. Skinner, as well as an aunt and four uncles, preceded Bill in death. His beloved mother Geraldine Skinner, of Kansas City, and his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Chris Donnelli, Platte City, survive him. His stepchildren, Ron and Kelly Douglas, Larry and Tonya Douglas, all of St. Joseph, and Patricia and David Callaway of Faucett, also survive him. Bill was blessed with 10 special grandchildren, George Anthony, Madeline and Grace Donnelli, Bly, Syler, and Mycah Douglas, Nathan and Madison Douglas, and Wyatt and Ava Callaway. Several special aunts and cousins will also miss Bill. We wish to thank Dr. Christopher Sirridge, the 5th Floor Oncology Unit at North Kansas City Hospital, and Northcare Hospice, for their compassionate service and friendship. (Arr.
