Las Vegas Here We Come

Have you heard our next reunion will be at Las Vegas, Nevada. John Gaynor has stepped up to the plate and has agreed to set up the next reunion. John was the company commander for the 981st during 1968 to 1969. I am really looking forward to seeing the group again.
While on reunions I just want to commend Bob Bouslaugh and his family for an excellent reunion. They did it all. If you did not get to go, let me give a brief description of their hospitality. We had a barbecue one day with Bob's brother, David, doing the cooking and Bob's daughter, Kimberly, doing the serving. Bob and David took care of the hospitality room. Bob's son-in-law was the DJ for our banquet. Bob's wife Cookie and both daughters and even grand children helped us get familiarized with the area. What a family. They really know how to entertain. The city of Durango is one of the best tourist attractions that I have been to. I believe this reunion rates of there with the best.

Take Care to All

Fallen Comrade/Friend

I am sorry to report that Thomas Springer 981st 70-71 died from a traffic accident on August 6, 2007. The complete obituary can be seen at the Seattle Times August 8, 2007 edition. Tom was returning home from our reunion at Durango, CO. We will keep his family in our prayers.

Iraq Dog Team

I just found out I have a celebrity in the Sheriff's Office. A Navy Dog Handler who has returned from Iraq is a Deputy in my department. He is in a video about Military Working Dogs and SPCA. He brought his dog back when he came back because of an injury to the dog. The Navy retired the dog to the handler. Thought you might be interested.

Dog Handler Yearbook Project

I have given Gary a project to work on for me. After the last couple of reunions, he has had difficulty remembering who everyone is in the pictures we had taken. I admit to taking a long time before I get to scrap booking the pictures which doesn’t help.

I would like to try to put together a yearbook of sorts. I’m not exactly sure how I am going to do this as I am not a computer person, but I will figure something out. To get this project started, I have asked Gary to take an individual picture of everyone who is able to make it to Durango. I am also asking him to write down everyone’s company and year group. For those of you who were not there, would you please send me a recent picture of yourself? This does not have to be anything fancy. A casual photograph that someone has taken of you would be just fine.

I would also like a picture of everyone from your dog handler days. If you have a picture of yourself and your dog, that would be great. If you need me to, I can make a copy of the picture and return the original to you. Also, if you would like to write a couple of sentences, or more, about your experiences as a dog handler or your time in Vietnam, I will include that with your photographs.

Reunion News

Well the reunion is over, and it seems to have been another success! From the photos I have recieved from Don Ristine, there were many happy faces!. Bob Bouslaugh and his wife Cookie, did a bang up job. We want to thank them for enduring the stress, and hard work that they put into this reunion, so everyone else could have a good time!

On the other side of the coin, there is a sad note. Tom Springer - 981st 70/71 was killed on the way home in Denver. I only have sketchy details, but it is possible he might have had a heart attack while riding his motorcycle to his home state, and was involved in an accident. Until I recieve further details, this is all that is known. If any one has information, on Tom's accident, please forward it to me or Larry, and I will be glad to update this news.

There are 3 photo albums available, of the 2007 reunion, thanks to the courtesy of Don Ristine 212th - 66'-67'. I want to thank Don for sending us these photos! The link to the photos are as follows 2007 Reunion Photo Gallery
