Adopt a MWD Program Update

I wanted to let people know that, beginning January 1, 2014, information on the Military Working Dog Adoption Program will switch sites. Below is Ron Aiello's announcement. I know Ron, who was a US Marine Canine Handler in Vietnam. Some years back he started the US War Dogs Association as a little website with strictly local ties. It has grown into an acclaimed authority on the Military Working Dog with thousands of photos of Military Working Dogs in action from World War II to the present. Ron was responsible for establishing a war dog memorial in New Jersey and is heavily involved in getting care packages to canine handlers in Afghanistan and all around the world. He now has thousands of followers and has chapters thru out the United States. He works to provide medical assistance for people who adopt these brave, disciplined, and loyal animals. His operation is a 501 (c) (3) organization. Ron spoke at the dedication of the Military Working Dog Teams National Monument. His website is:

Debbie Kandoll will still be involved in the adoption program. She has been forced to cut back on her involvement due to employment obligations and responsibilities. She has been a dedicated promoter of the adoption program and is directly responsible for placing hundreds of retired military canines. She participated in the 2010 Phoenix Veterans Day Parade with 3 retired Military canines. I will always remember how earlier in 2013 she flew to Greece, by herself, to pick up one retired military working dog to return to the US and reunite it with a former handler.

As things wind down in Afghanistan, any reduction in military forces will include not only the personnel, but the four=legged warriors as well...and not just military working dogs, but Contract Working Dogs as well. These are canines trained by private companies, often in the area of IED detection, and contracted out to the military. Others have been directly employed with the contracting companies working over there as well. These dogs will need homes and given the opportunity to be.....just dogs. Please consider this and spread the word.

Ron's announcement:

ATTENTION! Update on the United States War Dogs Association, Inc. Starting January 1, 2014 there will be changes and additions to our non profit organizations.

United States Military Working Dog Adoptions:

US Military Working Dog Adoptions(formerly known as (Military Working Dog Adoptions) is a non profit organization(501) (c) (19) which provides this informational website for the adoption of MWDs and CWDs.

Starting January 1, 2014 Military Working Dog Adoptions will be incorporated into the United States War Dogs Association, Inc.

Founding member: Debbie Kandoll will still be involve (on a limited basis due to her schedule) with finding homes for our Retired Military Working Dogs and for providing transportation.

Founded by Debbie Kandoll in 2008, has helped more than 400 working dogs from all walks of life: Military, Contract, Border Patrol, Search & Rescue, TSA and Police K9s achieve the needed transport to their Forever Homes. We have assisted with various medical needs up to and including humane euthanasia and cremains preparation. We have also served as a failsafe for adopted K9 Heroes needing rehoming. We have been honored to help military K9s, Police K9s and Contract Working Dogs find Forever Homes as the need may arise

Video Game Military Working Dog

I hope this post is okay. I believe this site is not only for us to post about the past but to post the present and future of military working dogs. I write military working dogs because there are no more sentry dogs. At any rate military working dogs have made it into the video game world.
