Jeffrey F. Volker Obituary
Jeffrey F. Volker was born in New York City. He grew up in Roselle, NJ and later moved to Medway (Holliston, and Framingham) with his mother, Mary Shedd and father Harry M. Shedd, Jr. As a junior in High School, he moved to Rahway, NJ and resided with Dr. Mallory Hinman and his wife Alice Shedd Hinman. After graduating high school in 1961, Jeff continued working for Colonia Country Club and Fanwood Crushed Stone, division of Weldon Materials as the Credit Manager until his retired in 2009 after 50 years. He was the Treasurer of National Association of Credit Management for New Jersey for many years. He is a graduate of Kean College (now Kean University) in 1980 with a degree in Psychology. Between 1964 and 1967, he served in the US Army including a tour of Vietnam of one of the first 100 Army dog handlers. He is a life member of VFW; life member of Vietnam Veterans; and a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club.
Jeff was married to Lynda Chankalian for over 20 years. She passed away in 2010. Jeff remarried Karen Keithline Hoff in 2014 and lived in Canal Walk in Somerset. He was an active bowler in several leagues in Essex, Middlesex, Morris. Somerset and Union Counties. He could be counted on to run many tournaments. He was President of the Essex County Bowling Association from 2012-2014. Jeff was elected into the Essex County Hall of Fame in 2016. He had been the treasurer of the West Ward Bowling League for over 20 years. He was Vice President of the Tuesday Senior League at Jersey Lanes in Linden, NJ.
Prior to attending Evangel Church in Scotch Plains, he was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Rahway, NJ. Jeff enjoyed volunteering in several capacities at Evangel Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, playing bocce, going to Red Lobster with his daughters, and any social church events with his wife.
He is predeceased by two siblings Frederick and Mallory Shedd.
Surviving is his wife Karen Volker, daughters Sarah and Lori Hoff, and a brother Harry Shedd.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave, Somerville. Interment will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery in Quakertown.
Visitation will be 4-7pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
